Hi!
Great to have a repository of music with xaphoon fingering, but my suggestion is to use keys suitable to the xaphoon.

These are (major keys): F,C,(Bb),G,(Eb),D and corresponding minor keys: d,a,(g),e,(c),h

I'm putting Bb and Eb in parenthesis because it's a bit hard to play low Eb.

Chosing one of these keys you can almost always set the melody so that the lowest note is C,D or Eb. Since the range of the xaphoon for a beginner/intermediate is effectively limited to the first register this makes more melodies playable.

I also noticed that sometimes the key signature is wrong. For instance on "Iris", the key signature is Eb, but the melody is obviously set in F.

Of course it's good training to play in strange keys, but I never think i will play in Cb major. (When the children cry)

Hi,

the problem here is, that there is either a way to play in a proper key, or a way to play it as easy as possible. And I'm focusing on the second way. As long as it is as easy as possible for beginners, it's there to go.

The strange keys are a result of transposing the song to the key, that has the lowest amount of sharps and flats, because new users really have problems with them, as far as I have figured out.

I got some people to buy themselves xaphoons and they're all but one, total beginners. The tabs without sharps are the most played. Of course, if you want to play in a band, you'll have to transpose it.

Those tabs are meant more as a little starting help, than accurate sheet music. See it as a musical scratchbook of ideas. Smiley

And you're right...playing low Eb is a thing for itself. I don't get it sounding right about 60% of the time. Cheesy

This is so awsome.  Thanks for the additional songs.  By the way--HUGE SINATRA FAN!  Any chance of "The Way You Look Tonight"?

Bod: Great site! This will give us more to play! What kind of software is used to produce the Xaphoon fingering below the staff notes? I'd like to have a go at doing that for some songs in the key of C. Maybe even a short tutorial or link to explain the basics.

Heh, after digging around this site, I found the kind of software used to produce the Xaphoon fingering below the staff notes is Tabledit. My next step is to learn how to transpose music to the key of C for my PS. Anyone know any good sites for learning this?

Brendan,

I haven't been online for quite awhile, but after reading your post, I decided to create a flash tutorial on using TablEdit for creating sheet music. I added it to my web page with all my other TablEdit tutorials for guitar music. The tutorials can be viewed at:

Larry,
Thanks for the great link! This will get me back into practice! I actually put my PocketSax down for a while...lack of books and subjects for it I think. Its important to play for a bit each day to keep that lip strong. I am reading through sax player manuals for tips etc that are applicable in the meantime. Smiley
